Tips I Give All My Students
When it comes to trucking, there's a few things to keep in mind. Like the fact that when you're on the road, everything is constantly changing. Even if there's no traffic, the road itself and weather conditions can change quickly, especially during certain times of the year here in Canada.
So there are a number of tips I give my students. I'll try to present them in list form here:
- Two words: AWARENESS and CONTROL. These are only two words, but in my opinion, they encompass everything to do with being a professional driver.
- Awareness includes being aware of everything from your speed, engine RPMs, current gear, lane position, road conditions, the traffic in front, behind, and on either side of you, pedestrians and (potential) jaywalkers, traffic controls, and anything else that may affect you at any given moment.
- Control includes many of the same things, but from a different aspect: speed, engine RPMs, lane position, following distance, to name just a few.
